Venus
Venus describes what you find beautiful and how you relate — your taste, your affections, what you consider worth having. It is about attraction in the widest sense, not romance alone.

What Venus Describes
Venus is what appeals. Not who somebody admires or would list as attractive, but what actually registers to them as care - the treatment that lands as being loved rather than merely being liked.
It also governs taste and value more broadly: what somebody finds beautiful, what they consider worth paying for, and what they will go out of their way to have around them. Those turn out to be closely related questions.
Venus in earth wants demonstrated reliability, and grand gestures land less well than somebody showing up on time repeatedly. Venus in fire wants intensity and pursuit. Venus in air wants conversation and being genuinely found interesting. Venus in water wants emotional access, and finds cheerfulness during a difficult moment faintly insulting.
Why This Matters More Than Sun Sign Compatibility
Sun sign compatibility compares one placement out of ten, and it is not the placement that governs relationships. Venus is.
It explains a large category of mismatch where both people are genuinely trying. Somebody offering earth-flavoured love to a fire Venus is being told they are unromantic while behaving impeccably, and neither person can see why the other is dissatisfied.
Comparing two Venus placements is more informative than comparing two Sun signs and considerably less discussed, largely because it requires an actual calculation rather than a birth date.
The Limits
Venus describes what appeals, not what somebody does about it - that is Mars, and the two frequently disagree within a single chart.
It also says nothing about whether a person is kind, which is the variable that actually determines whether a relationship works. A chart comparison contains no information on that subject, and reading Venus placements as a compatibility verdict asks considerably more of them than they can carry.
