Aquarius is the sign of the outside view, ruled traditionally by Saturn and in modern practice by Uranus - a combination of structure and disruption that explains most of its contradictions. It cares about people in the aggregate and can be strikingly cool about them individually, and it forms its positions from principle rather than from what the surrounding group has agreed.
Aquarius needs a partner who is also a friend and who does not experience the need for distance as rejection. Intimacy works when it is not demanded on a schedule. The recurring failure is that Aquarius steps back to think and forgets to say that is what is happening, leaving the other person to interpret silence.
Aquarius works best on problems rather than tasks, and in cultures that tolerate disagreement. Technology, research, reform, anything where the existing method deserves questioning. They are poor at office politics through disinterest rather than inability, and it costs them.
Aquarius is inconsistent about money - indifferent for long stretches, then suddenly systematic. Spending follows conviction rather than convention, which produces both principled choices and impractical ones. The gap is usually between the values held and the arrangements actually in place.
