The Fifth House: What You Make
The fifth house covers creativity, play, romance, and children - which again looks like an arbitrary list until the connection is visible. All four are things a person produces and puts into the world with their own signature on them.
Romance sits here rather than in the seventh because the fifth is courtship and pleasure rather than partnership. The seventh is the commitment; the fifth is the part before it, and the part that keeps a long relationship alive afterwards.
It is the house of self-expression in the most literal sense: expressing the self outward, and enjoying the result.
The Part Most Charts Neglect
The fifth house tends to be the first casualty of a busy life, and a chart reading that ignores it will miss a common source of quiet dissatisfaction. Play is not optional infrastructure.
Planets here describe what somebody does for its own sake. If nothing in a life currently corresponds to that, the fifth house is the part of the chart being underused.
Children, Carefully
The traditional attribution of children to this house should not be read as a prediction about whether somebody will have any. Astrology does not forecast that and any reading that claims to is overreaching considerably.
The more defensible reading is that it describes the relationship to creation and to whatever a person raises or brings up - which for many people includes children and for many does not.
