Cancer, Everything Is About to Spiral Out of Control: Here’s What’s Coming!
A Familiar Silence Could Start a Difficult Conversation
At the same time, a personal relationship may feel harder to read than usual. A person could answer less often, seem distracted when you meet, or avoid a topic you have been trying to bring up. You might fill the gaps with explanations that grow more painful every time you check your phone. Before you decide what their silence means, ask them what is going on. Your feelings deserve real information to work with.
Try to be honest about your part of the story. You may have told this person you were fine with an arrangement that has started to hurt. Perhaps you have been the one making plans, checking in, and accepting apologies, while hoping they would notice the imbalance on their own. They may not. Tell them what you need now, in plain terms, and leave room for an answer you can evaluate.
If they are dealing with their own problems, you can care about that and still discuss how their behavior affects you. A hard month does not erase a missed promise. It does, however, give you context that may help you decide what to ask for next. Look for a willingness to talk and follow through. Reassurance can feel good tonight; changed behavior will matter next week.
