An Awkward Conversation Could Clear the Air
Late September may also bring a conversation you have delayed because you were waiting for the right mood. Perhaps a friend’s jokes have started to sting, a romantic connection keeps sending mixed signals, or a work partner takes credit for decisions you made together. You have probably found ways to explain each incident. Finding an explanation does not mean you have to keep accepting the behavior.
Choose one concrete example instead of presenting a case file from the past six months. Tell the person what happened, how it affected you, and what you would like to change. They may need a moment to take it in, especially if you have seemed comfortable until now. You do not have to soften your point so thoroughly that they miss it. A conversation can be respectful and still leave no doubt about what you mean.
The reply may surprise you. Someone could acknowledge the problem and offer a fix sooner than you expected. Or you might hear a polished explanation that never addresses your concern. In either case, you will have more to work with than the private debate you have been conducting in your head. Give the person a chance to respond, then pay attention to what they do over the next few days.
