Cancer, The Final Days of September Won’t Go as Planned: Here’s What Awaits You
You may have pictured a quiet end to September: a few loose ends tied up, one honest conversation, and some room to breathe before October. Instead, someone could need more from you just as your own energy runs low. The request may sound small at first, which makes it harder to explain why it bothers you. Read to the end, because the biggest change may come when you realize what you have been saying yes to without being asked.
Someone Assumes You Will Take Care of It
A family member, friend, or partner may bring you a problem with the expectation that you will know what to do. You probably do know what to do. That is part of the difficulty. You can see the missed appointment, the uncomfortable phone call, or the practical task they would rather avoid, and stepping in would make everyone’s day easier. For everyone else, at least.
Before you volunteer, find out what the person has already tried. There is a difference between helping someone through a hard week and becoming the automatic manager of their life. If they need support, you can offer a specific amount of it. You might talk through their options tonight while leaving the call for them to make tomorrow. That may feel less immediately satisfying than solving the whole thing, but it gives both of you a fairer arrangement.
Their reaction could surprise you. Someone who cares about you may simply have missed how much you were carrying and adjust once you say so. Another person may push back because your help has become part of their plan. Listen closely if they describe a reasonable limit as though you have let them down. That response tells you something you need to know before October adds another month of the same pattern.
